Meet the Instructor

Bridget Mitchell, 2025

Hi! My name is Bridget Mitchell. I am a violin performer and teacher based in Tucson, Arizona. I’ve been teaching violin, viola, and piano for over six years, working with students to build strong fundamentals while also fostering a love for music and confidence in their own abilities. I earned my degree in violin performance from Arizona State University, where I studied with Dr. Katie McLin, and I’ve been fortunate to learn from many wonderful teachers along the way. Those experiences shape how I teach—I aim to be a positive, supportive presence for my students and to create lessons that are encouraging, motivating, and fun. Alongside teaching, I stay active as a performer and regularly work with orchestras throughout Arizona, bringing real-world performance experience into my studio.

I’ve taught students ranging from age 3 to 88. I truly believe everyone is capable of learning and accomplishing big things. I am currently accepting students ages 5 through adulthood.

My Student’s accolades include admittance into the Phoenix Youth Symphony, Metropolitan Youth Symphony, AMEA Regional and All-State Orchestras, and numerous successful solo performances. My philosophy is that a teacher is responsible for providing an education that is appropriate to the age, ability, and unique learning style of each student. Students should get a holistic education that addresses a number of styles and cultures, while exploring music that is relevant to their lives.

Pedagogical Approach

Mesa FPC Choir rehearsal, 2025

I follow these basic principles in my teaching:

  1. Everyone is capable of learning how to play a musical instrument!

  2. Students are most engaged when the music they learn is relevant to their lives

    1. Curriculum should be personalized to the interests of students, while relying on a core curriculum to teach technical fundamentals needed to achieve any goals.

  3. A teacher needs to give their students three things: a technical foundation, the tools to organize their learning, and the motivation to practice and apply these principles

  4. A well-rounded musician should learn music from multiple disciplines.

    1. I am well versed in Classical, Mariachi, Fiddle, Pop, and Arabic string styles, and I prefer that my students study in multiple areas.

  • This depends on the prior experience and needs of your student. I have a few ‘core curriculum’ resources that most students use, but it varies by instrument, age, and student interests. The materials your student will need will be covered in an intro meeting or trial lesson.

  • For existing students, the fastest way to reach me is by text. For new students, leave a message in the contact section.

  • No, I am not a Suzuki certified teacher. The cost of Suzuki teacher is prohibitive for many string and piano teachers. However, I learned using the Suzuki Method, and I have done extensive independent research on Suzuki education, and have implemented many aspects of the curriculum and pedagogical style into my own teaching.

  • By paying for lessons, you are reserving a weekly time slot. Regular attendance is expected and critical to making progress. I understand that unexpected circumstances may arise. Families will receive 1 free makeup credit per semester. Families will work with the instructor to find a suitable time for makeup lessons. Additional makeup lessons may occur based on instructor availability and are not guaranteed. See the resource section for a complete breakdown.

  • I offer in-home as well as in-office lessons. If you are an adult or home-school family, this is a good option. Availability for in-home lessons is more limited.
